Parker Posey and Craig Melvin had an awkward time on the Today show.
The actress first misheard a comment that Melvin made.
He then asked her about a horror film, only for Posey to reveal she’s no longer starring in it.
Yikes! Parker Posey and Craig Melvin both appeared visibly shellshocked after experiencing back-to-back awkward moments during their Today show interview.
On Monday, the White Lotus alum, 57, sat down with the co-anchor, 47, for a live chat that started out well, but quickly spun off the rails after Posey misheard one of Melvin’s remarks, believing it to be a dig at her.
“Before I let you get out of here, we’ve got to talk horror,” Melvin said. When Posey leaned forward for clarification, he quickly added, “No, horr-or!”
The Scream actress then burst into laughter, putting her hand to her heart as she fired back, “I thought you called me a whore!”

Which wasn’t Melvin’s intention at all. “I did not call you a whore!” he exclaimed. “I… H-O-R-R-O-R! Horror!”
Posey couldn’t help but poke fun at the accident. “This is the Today show!” she teased, to which Melvin responded, “I did not enunciate well.”
But that was just the tip of the awkward interview iceberg. Melvin then attempted to pivot away from the unintentional name-calling by mentioning Posey’s potential involvement in the upcoming horror film, Sleepover.
“Scream 3, Blade, and now you’re doing a new horror film. Tell us about your new horror film,” he said, to which Posey simply replied, “I’m not doing it.”
The response caused Melvin to spiral even further. “It says right here that you’re doing Sleepover!” he said, pointing toward his cue cards. Earlier this month, Variety reported that Posey was set to star in Blumhouse’s latest horror-thriller, which will be released in theaters in 2027.

Only… “No. I’m not doing it anymore,” Posey told a flummoxed Melvin, as someone in the background burst into laughter. When asked if that was accurate, she continued, “It is true. Now I’m sweating. Can I use this as a fan?”
Posey took Melvin’s cue card and began to wave cool air toward herself as he questioned her involvement in the project. “I was! Yeah!” she confirmed. “It’s not happening anymore. Something came up.”
Which, honestly, left them at a very uncomfortable crossroads. “Okay, well, now it’s even more awkward than usual,” Melvin joked. A laughing Posey added, “It’s funny!”

She eased the awkward energy by poking fun at Melvin recently being crowned PEOPLE’s Sexiest Morning Show Host, teasing, “Hotter than a cup of coffee, Craig!”
“Are you really not doing Sleepover?” he doubled down. “Did I screw that up?”
When Posey once again confirmed she would not be in the film, he continued, “Okay, well, now it’s really awkward.”
The anchor then asked his fellow cohost, Carson Daly, to “save us please” by transitioning to the next segment. “I can’t,” Daly, who was sitting with the cast of the Hunger Games, said. “It’s impossible. We have another viral clip coming up for sure.”
